Logistics

Accommodations

There are many hotels and AirBnB options near the Fields Institute. Recommendations from the Fields Institute can be found here.

Travel

For those attending from out of province, the simplest way to get the Fields Institute is to first fly into Pearson International Airport (YYZ).  From there, there are three options to travel between Pearson and the Fields Institute/surrounding areas:

  1. An airport taxi or limo:  One way this costs between $50 and $60.  When arriving at Pearson, just follow the signs.  No prebooking is required (in fact, prebooking costs an additional $10).  If you want to book a taxi or limo in advance for your return trip, two options are this and this.  Note that such a trip can take anywhere between 40 and 100 minutes depending on traffic.
  2. The Union-Pearson Express (UP train):  These trains connecting Pearson to Union Station in downtown Toronto in 25 minutes come every 15 minutes and cost $12.35.  From Union Station, you can take the TTC line 1 to Queen's Park Station (another $3.25) and walk west along College Street for 5-10 minutes to arrive at the Fields Institute.  This procedure is easily reversed for your return trip.  More information pertaining to the UP train can be found here.  This route generally takes between 45 and 60 minutes.
  3. The TTC:  The cheapest option for travelling between Pearson Airport and the Fields Institute (i.e. $3.25) is to take TTC bus #192 (Airport Rocket) all the way to Kipling subway station.  From here you can take Line 2 to St. George Station.  From St. George Station you can either walk to the Fields Institute through the University of Toronto campus (10-15 minutes) or transfer to a southbound train to Queen's Park Station from which you can walk west along College Street for 5-10 minutes to arrive at the Fields Institute. This procedure is easily reversed for your return trip (but be wary of TTC delays).  This route takes about an hour depending on traffic.

Reimbursement

We hope to offer partial support for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.  Otherwise we will not be able provide any additional reimbursement.
